The Early Days
It all started with a simple observation...
In 1997, our late founder, Andrew Jones, looked at the challenges faced by retailers and saw an opportunity to make a real difference.
Andrew came from a background in retail and textiles, but he was always an innovator at heart. When he noticed the difficulties supermarkets were having moving heavy roll cages from storage to the shop floor, he knew there had to be a better way.
So, Andrew set out to develop a solution. He started with a single machine, initially designed for moving caravans and small goods. But Andrew recognised the broader potential – a safer, more efficient way to transport all kinds of wheeled loads.
Crafting the First Electric Tugs
As supermarkets began investing in large, out-of-town stores, our electric tugs became the answer they were looking for, allowing store teams to easily move multiple roll cages at a time, revolutionising their replenishment processes.
Over the years, the MasterMover story has continued to evolve – forging out new markets across a wide range of industries.

An Era of Growth & Development
Andy Owen became Managing Director in 2007 and a Partner in 2009. Confident that electric tug solutions were exportable and provided benefits to a diverse range of sectors, the MasterMover team entered a new period of growth.
While the UK remained the firm foundation on which to launch an export push, it was clear that other countries lacked a comparable solution.
From 2007 onwards, and with a clear marketing strategy in place, the business became increasingly proactive in overseas markets.
It was a plan that paid dividends...
Export Excellence
Beginning with a phased roll out to Europe and in response to rising demand, the company’s global management team and sales partner network went from strength to strength.
Under the leadership of Andy Owen, we embarked on an ambitious global expansion.
Confident that our solutions could benefit companies worldwide, we opened subsidiary offices in Germany, North America, and France.

Leading a Legacy
In 2016, our original founder’s own son, James Jones, joined the business as a Partner, leading our bespoke project-managed solutions, engineering, finance and operations.
Our commitment to innovation and teamwork has positioned MasterMover as a leader in enhancing safety and efficiency for our customers.
Partners Andy Owen and James Jones continue to drive the company forward with creativity, collaboration, and the same determination that has been at the core of our business since its founding over two decades ago.
Proudly British Built
Today, our reputation for innovation, engineering excellence, and unwavering customer focus has made us a global leader in material handling.
Whilst our journey has taken us across the world, we’re proudly still based in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, where we have retained a full inhouse design and manufacturing operation – which requires an ever-expanding headquarters!

Whilst Andrew Jones sadly passed away in 2005, his influence can be felt in every breakthrough solution, every team member inspired to push the boundaries of what's possible.
